It is unless you need to go to a higher temperature range. The metal 
can, TO-46 part only goes to 148.5�C. The other plastic packages are 
even lower. The LM34AH metal can part sells for USD 19.41 at Arrow.

There is a whole family of these simple thermometers, but all suffer 
from the same limitations.
