Are you referring to spelling or pronunciation? I've found that quite a few people struggle with spelling, and sometimes it changes pronunciation. One of my pet peeves is people saying "mute point". And they think it -means- "mute" as in silent. If you mean pronunciation, I've always heard it pronounced with a silent "l".
