It is awfully sticky at first, but overnight it hardens to a really hard layer. If you look at colophony chunks they are similar to colored glass, and break in a similar way. Some solvents might leave it sticky, as far as i know colophony is produced by distilling the turpentine out of tree resin. But ethanol definitely works.
