The auto shock absorbers seem to be a bit of an overkill. Besides the effort needed to compress them is very high. I would suggest a small rubber ball instead. With the arm length needed for tangental motion, there would be plenty of room. Heavy duty rubber pneumatic cushions are in use don trucks instead of the standard shock absorbers.
