Furthermore... I failed to mention the privacy impact on anyone who writes 
to you at that account. This includes me and everyone else on the list. 
Beyond simply archiving newsgroup content, which was DejaNews's and Google's 
start, gmail now has insidious portals into private and public mailing 
lists. What an incredible coup for data mining! Mountain comes to Mohammed.

Last, this "invitation" business is particularly offensive. It reminds me of 
a story about a young boy named Tom Sawyer. Aside from that, what an 
incredible work of piece of legal and societal manipulation. You not only 
volunteered to be infected, you had to actively seek out an infection 
source.

It's too late to becry where this is taking us, and please don't take any 
part of this as a personal attack. We were headed there from the beginning. 
I live in a home paid for in part by revenues from a very large market 
research company (my wife, not me). I'm just surprised to find us so far 
along that road so quickly. Some days, I feel like Rip Van Winkle awaking 
after a brief nap.
