  You're not considering opening your email program, receiving, and 
looking at the folder to see if there are new messages 'polling'?  It is 
simply something you are used to doing.  For that matter, it would be 
fairly trivial to have an 'email' program that also pulled in the 
messages from a board, just like you like.  Heck, it's probably out 
there, I have had the idea a time or two before but never looked really.
