Hi everybody Will someone be able to tell me which hard drives the CMI III can use and how large the drives size limit is? I'll prefer any 3½ inch hard drive if possible. I'm on OS 6.03. why I ask this is because I want to connect an external hard drive to the CMI for backing up

I have had the same problem in the past with my IIX and the problem was only some bad contacts in the card's connectors on the backplane. Ciao Fabio Kevin Kelley wrote: My IIx has developed a crackling sound when playing back samples, sounds almost as if the sound was being playe

Kyle, Congratulations on getting your IIx! I had the same exact questions about the library when I got mine. I, too, had the Pro-Rec cd and had gotten used to the sounds on it. Unfortunately, there hasn't been any kind of "definitive" list of Fairlight sounds published that I kno

My recently purchased IIx came with OS Rev. 19. Can someone tell me the difference between Revs. 19 and 20? Is it possible for someone with Rev 20 to copy it for me? I can provide whatever disks are required. Also, it seems that I have most of the original library, but going by t

My IIx has developed a crackling sound when playing back samples, sounds almost as if the sound was being played back on a dirty record or something similar. everything else functions fine. Does anyone have any insight into what may cause this or where to look? Any help would be

The lightpen on my IIx seems to be working fine but I got to thinking, if it DID go bad, would that basically be the end of my Fairlight? I mean, I know you can use it to some extent without the pen, but that would kinda suck. Hello Laurence, I had also a defective lightpen on my

Hi folks. I just found this Yahoo club. I am the proud owner of a IIx system. I am not as proficient at it as it appears many of you are, but I enjoy it none the less. I am glad I found you guys and I hope you will be patient with the questions I am sure to have. I'll be happy to

Hi Rob, I've seen JB's project evolution and prototypes. I can tell you he made great progress during the first half of this year. Since then, they had their second child birth and also they will move house soon... So all the projects are in standby for a few months. But don't wo

Hi Peter, I wondered whether they upped their own bidding price. There is nothing wrong with knowing whom you're bidding against. Also if they have more units they are listing the same photographs, which is against ebay policy. If the sale crubmled, the previous bidder could be c

I know it probably would never happen, but it would be great if Fairlight started to service or supply parts for their vintage systems, if only to keep their heritage alive. I reckon they'd make a fair bit of pocket money! As Pete now lives in Australia, there is no-one in the UK

All apologies for promoting my auction one final time. The reserve has been lowered to 3150 GBP, which converts to about $5400.00 USD (according to Sphere's calculations - funds are requested in GBP, so exact conversion rates may vary). I'd like to see it sell at VEMIA, thus the

James - yes, a 9.34 CMI can boot from an 11.39 /K0 boot floppy, you get an 11.39 OS9 shell prompt. Keep in mind you are not going to be running the entire 11.39 CMI software (e.g. the typcial CMI screens) just a limited 11.39 OS9 shell. It is the 11.39 shell that you can type in

It's last version is good, as I think I've sufficiently tested all of the file system functions provided. Auditioning sounds can crash very occasionally since the code to extract samples doesn't handle badly-formed .VC files but I'm working on this. I've been thinking of a public

Hi, The whole OS-9 filesystem (RBF) is based on 24-bit addresses for OS-9 sectors (256 bytes). One could implement a JKERNEL SCSI-driver extension (for the wavesuper) in order to "fake" multiple 4GB drives from one large drive >>4GB, though. As far as I know, MFX3 supported a new

Hi James, I haven't tried booting from the card since I'm rather averse to opening up the mainframe unless it absolutely needs it :-). I'd bet the speed of the CF card makes a difference; I just tried a plain Lexar 32MB and the speed was OK, about what I'd expect from an older SC
