Has anyone heard from Colin since the email he sent below? I'm just wondering if he's still having problems accessing emails. It seems I can't get hold of him on any of the 3 I have for him (bt, hotmail and yahoogroups). Regards, Peter On 10/6/06, Peter Connelly peter.yahoogroups

When considering a synth/sampler strictly from the specifications on the advertisements and web information it appears that both the series III and the synclavier appear very close. I was wondering if anyone on this list has both a series III and a synclavier PSMT and could voice

Hi Tim, It doesn't bother me. I think this forum is the ideal medium to exchange information and help each-other. The Q777 EPROM doesn't have any revision label on it... On the Q133, here are the revision numbers : - F8LMRK6 - Q9F0MRK1 And both cables between the Adaptec board an

Thanks so much Laurent! That helps immensely! I hate to ask another favor, but would it be possible for you to check and see what versions the EPROMS are on the Q777 and the Q133? There should be a single EPROM on the Q777 (probably labeled SCSI) and 2 EPROMs on the Q133 - an FL8

Hello Tim, The rev 6.03 use the Q777 card as SCSI controler. I believe the upper version kept the Q777 but used the CMI-41 as SCSI controler. In my CMI the Q777 is connected to an Adaptec board which is a ESDI/SCSI converter. This board is driving two Maxtor XT-1140 ESDI hard-dis

Hi Laurent - Thanks for the info. I'll send them an email. As for the 6.03, does it still use the Q777 card? If so I'm trying to find out some info on the Hard Disk/Controller card combination as well as the jumper settings. Any chance that you know this info or have the opportun

Can anyone who has an early Series III get in touch with me? I need to have some questions answered about the early Hard Disks - the ones that used the old Q777 cards. I'm in the middle of a project, so if anyone can get in touch asap it would be great. Thanks, Tim

Hi Laurent, I asked this quite some time ago, but never got a response, so believe it either doesn't do it or it's not so straight forward as it was on the II. Let's hope there's someone on the list now that know the answer :-) Peter On 10/7/06, Laurent Lemaire llemaire1@free.fr

Ah, very helpful -- I actually had that song handy, so checked it out asap. It's interesting how the sound breaks apart twice as it shifts down and both times recollects its timbral qualities a few pitches further down. I imagine that has something to do w/ the inaccuracies? ---

Arron, as before, good, thoughtful stuff. In fact, I may have read your post earlier on KVR -- I liked it then as well! I particularly liked your point regarding how people don't really get creative about microediting, which--I agree--has become something of a lost artform in the

Hi, Series III still had (an updated) version of Page R. Incidentally, Page R now stands for Rythm Sequencer whereas on the 2 and 2x it stood for Real-Time Composer. The SIII's Page R has 16 tracks although the principle is the same as always. CAPS (Composer Arranger Performer Se

I think that's an excellent point, Scott there probably used to be a LOT more pre-production work done on records in general, but esp. for people like Horn, who raised it (literally) to an art form. But in a way, I wonder if what you're saying actually reinforces the point I wa

It's not a stupid question at all. First, the Series II and IIx had three sequencers, Page 9, MCL, and Page R. There was no way to "sync" any of the sequencers together (apart from multi-tracking one to tape, then loading and syncing the other). If you think about it, it wouldn't
2006-10-04 by Andrew
I hope this isn't a stupid question. I don't have a Fairlight so I'm just on this list for gathering information. As I recall (from many years ago :D), the Series II had Page R as a rhythm programmer, but also Page 9 as a sequencer. I would have expected if that was the case that

Hi Matthew, I too wondered about this until I got my IIx a few years ago. I think there are several things that make Page R-created songs sound the way they do. 1. Only 8 tracks. Yeah, many (or most) artists laid the tracks down on tape and then did eight more (and so on) to achi

Well, right -- I think that's exactly it: I need to see how it works. It's just interesting that it takes a LOT of work to recreate not just the "sound" of the Fairlight on modern gear, but perhaps more importantly, the "feel." Is there any kind of Page R emulator out there? ---
