Re: [Fairlight-CMI] Re: Syncing a IIx

2010-01-12 by WT

Hi Tim ( and everybody else ),

I can happily report that my IIx is now in sync with the rest of the world.

Indeed, one uses the Sync-connector on the mainframe. It has dual functions,
Sync In on Pin 2, Metronome Click Out on Pin 3, with a common ground on Pin
1.

One must apply 384 PPQ ( 1536 pulses per bar ). I tested it with both a
Garfield Masterbeat and a Friendchip SRC.

Seems a shame if the Multi Sync out and Din-sync out on the Midibox never
was implemented.....kind of hard to use the IIx as a SMPTE slave/sync
provider for other gear.

Looking at the service documents, I can´treally decipher from where the
68A40´s get the sync input. Ah well.....guess I´ll look into that another
time.

As I recall, the sync input in the General Interface box was never
implemented. (It's been a while since I've checked it out, but I
believe that this is the case. I'll be inside the CMI soon, so I can
verify this)

You sync the IIx by using a 384 PPQ sync into the sync input on the
back of the mainframe, in the row along the bottom.

You will need to make a custom cable for this. Going by memory, the
IIx (as well as the I and II) use that jack for both input and
output. One is to pin 2, one is to pin 3, and they share a common
ground to pin 1. The manual has this diagram in the back)

This works for Page R. For Page 9 and for MCL you will have different
clock rates.
