Re: [Fairlight-CMI] Fairlight dog sample

2007-05-18 by Peter Connelly

I think this sample could be the same sample used in "Suburbia", by the Pet Shop Boys, played at different pitches. Listen to the beginning of the track, particularly the 12", you'll know what I mean.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Cheers,

I hope these don't come across as frivolous questions. They aren't meant

Has the Fairlight dog sample been used much (or at all, for that matter) in
music?

Would there be any issues if I were to use that sample in a piece of music?
I don't own a Fairlight, and sampled the sound into a Roland V-Synth.

And out of curiosity, does anyone know what breed of dog it was - or what
he/she was called?

To clarify why I'm asking, I've made several patches including that sample,
and used one of them in a track that may be released on CD at some point.
I'll probably make my own dog sample(s) at some point, but it'd help to know
if I'm ok using the Fairlight one.

I've heard the sample was made when sampling was regarded as a bit of a
novelty rather than as something musically serious, so it quite appeals to
me to use it in a musical context.
