[Doepfer_a100] New poll for Doepfer_a100

2015-05-29 by Doepfer_a100@yahoogroups.com

Enter your vote today! A new poll has been created for the Doepfer_a100 group:
Should Doepfer start to make a simple buffered multiple with either 2hp width or 4hp widht? A dual 1in 3 out with the ability to use the lower unit outputs with the upper units input.
Created by: marco.heimburger
  1. Yes
  2. No

Thanks!

Thank you for the poll. It should take not longer than 1-2 hours to "design" this module (about 1 hour for the electronics and 1
hour for the front panel). The 4 HP version would be cheaper because all the electronics can be collected on one pcb (about the same
price as the A-138u, i.e. ~ Euro 50). The 2 HP version requires 2 pcbs and would be a bit more expensive (~ Euro 60).

Let's wait for the result of the poll.

Best wishes

Would this be exactly the same as the Intellijel buffered multiple in 2 HP but from Doepfer instead?

I don't know the circuit of the Intellijel module but I think there not many options for such a circuit. Our buffered multiple would
be nothing but a master buffer for the input signal followed by 3 individual buffers for each output (i.e. the outputs are not
simply connected but each has it's own buffer). And each buffer is nothing but an operational amplifier with amplification 1. And
our module would be manufactured in the old-fashioned through hole technology (THT) as it's much easier to modify through hole pcbs
and to replace integrated circuits.

In the A-180-1 all sockets are equal because they are simply connected (a passive module). In a buffered multiple you have to
distinguish between the input and the outputs. Consequently a different panel is required (same psition of the holes, but different
silk screen printing to show the in/outputs). A bit like the A-138u panel but reverse, i.e. 2 x (1 input and 3 outputs) instead of 2
x (3 inputs and 1 output).

Dieter -
I would think about also make the opposite of a buffered multiple - a unity summer. Dual three inputs and one output sections normalized to each other. It is often needed when transposing sequencers or other sources to destinations that don’t have multiple 1V/oct inputs. I know a mixer can be used to do this but a 1:1 summing module would do it easier with no adjustments needed. As far as I know there are very few of them on the market (intellijel and Xaos make them).

Hello James,

A-185-2 and A-138u can be used for this application. The A-185-2 has a bit more features including an input with attenuator (e.g.
for modulation or pitch bend where it's necessary to adjust the depth), optional bus access via jumper and octave switch function
for unused inputs. And it's also kind of a buffered multiple as it has 3 buffered outputs. I use the A-185-2 nearly in every patch
with 2 or more VCOs.

Best wishes
Dieter Doepfer

Update: the prototype pcb of the dual buffered multiple (A-180-3) arrived and has been tested. As expected to problems occured. The
module will be released about September 2015. The price will be the same as the A-138u because it very similar (i.e. Euro 50).

Best wishes

P.S. I'm on holiday for 2 weeks. So no comments/answer from me during this time.

I found a typing error in my former message. It should read "...As expected NO problems occured"

That's great!!!

I suspect that you are not in the facebook-group, but there are some of us there
that are very happy right now (and it is there the discussion about a buffered multiple cought on )

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
