Exchanging CEM3379 for CEM3320 on the A-122

Exchanging CEM3379 for CEM3320 on the A-122

2014-10-11 by John V. Talbert

Could use some input here. I have an A-122 with the CEM3379 that I purchased last year and was planning to exchange it for a CEM3320. Does anyone know if there are any special modifications that I need to make to the A-122 beforehand or should this be a simple swap?

Thanks

Kindest regards,
John

Why waste the nice A122 sound? Unless the CEM3379 is broken of course?

Sorry to have to say this John, but they are certainly not swappable - Different configurations/pinouts. I suppose it COULD be done, but I’m afraid it’s way more trouble than it’s worth IMHO.

Hello John,

The two versions of the A-122 are two completely different modules. The 3320 needs external electronics which are quite different from the 3379. For example: the resonance feedback path has to be done externally for the 3320, while it is internal in the 3379. Or : the four stages of the 3320 have to be wired externally, whil the 3379 has them connected internal.

So I have to say sorry: there is no difference in "build a diy 3320 module" or "modify a 3379 to suit a 3320".

Thanks for the insight Florian and Andy. I was just hoping that swapping in a CEM3320 would allow the A-122 to pair even more nicely with my A-123. Looks like it was all just wishful thinking! :)
