Hello John,
The two versions of the A-122 are two completely different modules.
The 3320 needs external electronics which are quite different from
the 3379. For example: the resonance feedback path has to be done
externally for the 3320, while it is internal in the 3379. Or : the
four stages of the 3320 have to be wired externally, whil the 3379
has them connected internal.
So I have to say sorry: there is no difference in "build a diy 3320
module" or "modify a 3379 to suit a 3320".

Could use some input here. I have an A-122 with
the CEM3379 that I purchased last year and was planning to
exchange it for a CEM3320. Does anyone know if there are any
special modifications that I need to make to the A-122
beforehand or should this be a simple swap?
