The steps are obviously addressed in the wrong way. I see two reasons for
this behaviour: a loose connector or defective integrated circuits. Look at
the connectors of the ribbon cable that leads from the small control board
(start, stop, step, reset) to the trigger/potentiometer boards. If the cable
and the connectors are OK probably one or more integrated circuits on the
control board or on the trigger/potentiometer boards are defective. As each
integrated circuit is equipped with a socket the circuits can be replaced
without soldering. If the module is still under warranty please return it
to the dealer where you purchased it.

Best wishes

Hey Deiter!

Im afraid I tried you suggestion of the ribbon cable to the trigger/potentiometer boards, it all looks ok... I would have been surprised actually, It hasn't been moved in a while.

So I think Ill have to go the "getting it fixed" route.

BUT, I have to say, I guess mine is pretty old cos theres no sockets on the IC's.. all soldered in!

Can I send it to you?
(This time Im absolutely certain its broken- remember the last time I sent you something to fix the sampler, it wasn't broken!! )

By the way, thank you so much for so promptly answering, I continue to find it totally amazing that you are so hands-on and customer oriented. Ive been trying to get a question out of Roland for a month now.

Hello Mrak

you are writing:
"Im getting step 1 then step 2 three times THEN step 7 and 8.. "
can you reproduce this sequence (1,2,1,2,1,2,7,8) every time, or was it
only an example?

Your A-155 is probably very old as since end of the nineties for all
integrated circuits sockets are used. If you are within the EU you may send
in the module directly to us. If you are outside the EU please contact the
Doepfer representative in your country. Sending the module from outside the
EU may cause import problems. In the worst case we have to pick up the
module from a customs office about 40 km away from our location, fill out a
lot of forms and pay import tax and VAT. This happened already sometimes
when customers outside the EU simply sent devices without any attached
documents for repair. And they were not happy about the emerging charges (in
addition to the actual repair charges).

Wow, it was a long time since last message and I still haven't gotten the 155 fixed.Im sure it is old, I bought it along time ago, and then it was second hand!Regarding sending it to Doepfer to be fixed. Im in Norway, which strictly is not in the EU. However I did send an item to you for repair once before. I marked the package very carefully as a repair item and I believe you had no problems.
However, Ive been building alot of my own modules recently and am pretty confident that my soldering skills are pretty up to scratch. However, more than that (testing chips of trouble shooting is right out!!!)
So I have some questions, can you be certain its the chips you mention, could I have a go at swapping them myself?
Are the chips regular, readily available ICs I can get from Tayda or Mouser?
Can you let me know what they are?Or are they specialised?
Could I get them from you for example?
I would of course put in IC holders this time.
Regards
Mark

The A-155 uses only CMOS standard circuits of the 4000 series (CD4011,
CD4024, CD4051, CD4053) and standard operational amplifiers (TL0xx series).
