Slightly OT

Slightly OT

2012-02-13 by Jim Credland

I'm building a little module to go along with the Doepfer ones in my rack here, and I'm desperately trying to find PCB straight mount 3.5mm jack sockets with a thread. They seem common enough on modules, but utterly impossible to find.

I want to mount the PCB parallel with the front panel, but 99% of the 3.5mm sockets on the market seem to demand a PCB perpendicular to the thing.

Anyone any ideas?

thanks, J.

Just add a jack PCB to your board design. Use right angle 0.1" headers to
attach to main PCB.

I've been searching for this as well.

The practical advantage of doing a single board with all knobs, jacks and switches on the same surface is massive just in terms of reduced wiring, imo.

The best I've come across is this [1] style -
which is switched (nice) but has the ground connector off the side (ouch).
It may be the same as, or similar to, toby electonics UJ-3506.

See also Lumberg 1502 03 [2], and Kycon ST-3002-3NM.

I'd be interested to hear of other solutions.
In particular, I'd quite like to know what jack doepfer uses e.g. in A-111-5, and where (or if) they may be sourced in small quantities by mere mortals.

Hi Jim,

Try these http://erthenvar.com/store/eurodiy/JACK35MMV - they sell hex and round nuts separately. First batch I used had a 10% failure rate but they have changed suppliers since and I've been assured they are 100% ok. Also very cheap at $30 inc nuts for 100 qty.

Cheers

Os, thanks, awesome. No thread though?

I'm going slowly crazy trying to track them down!

If I don't go with a thread I'm going to have to do some other re-enforcing of the panel to the PCB which is a shame.

Thank you though!

All, thanks enormously! I have some options now. Gur at tiptop also suggested this source.
