Analogue Systems RS 290

2010-10-22 by deividnb1

Hello all!

First of all, can anyone explain how to put analogue systems modules inside a doepfer frame?

I have watched a video on youtube of the Analogue Systems rs290 sampler/delay and it seems really cool... could I mount it in my doepfer?

is there any possibility to have anything like this in our Doepfer product range? I am a guitarist, and I love recording loops with my pedals. Now that I have seen this I want to loop my guitar in the Doepfer and do some crazy modular stuff! Also, if I have a looper pedal that allows me to play the recorded loop only once, I suppose I could somehow patch the sampler to record when there is signal in the envelope generator of the A-119, so I could perfectly sync the sampler to the loop... then maybe play with clock for tempo, modulate, filter....

Is this possible, or am I going crazy?

Thanks!

Hi David,

of course you can mount ASys modules in a Doepfer frame. In Europe your best bet
will probably be Schneider's Buero. Guckst Du hier:

http://www.schneidersladen.de/en/category/en-products/en-modular-eurorack-misc

I agree that the RS290 is a very cool product. Alternatives are the A-187-1 and
TipTop Audio Z-5000. The latter ones are programmable DSP processors and as such
are capable of more effects than just delay/sampling. However, the ASys has 5.5
seconds of stereo sampling, which is more than either the Doepfer or the TipTop
modules provide afaik.

The RS 290 can be used as a looper. As for the rest of you question I am not
sure what you want. Why not use your regular looper (after all, they were
designed to do exactly that) and then use your modular as a sound processor?
Unless, of course, you want to mangle the sample data itself. But then we are
fast approaching Max/MSP territory...

Hope this helps,

York

in order to connect an AS module into a doepfer frame, you need a
special cable which is available from analogue systems (Bob Williams)
here:

www.analoguesystems.com

but, keep in mind that digital modules (like the rs290) need +5volts
power which the a100 frame does not supply. you can add +5volts power to
your a100 frame, by adding the 5 volts adapter from doepfer, but that
adapter will only provide you with 100mA of 5 volts power. for some
modules this will be enough, but for other won't.

especially for the rs290, you better contact analogue systems, to inform you about its power requirements.

Analogue Haven (USA) has suitable adapters available (I know this as we
manufacture the adapters for them).
