please keep it up! (a kind request)

2010-10-21 by Bakis Sirros

to all the list members:

a kind request:

during the last few days, the group came alive again!

i was really disappointed during the last few moths, seeing that this group was only used as a 'classifieds section'.

it is ok of course to post your ads, but, please, keep them to the MINIMUM possible and try to participate in useful and creative conversations (patching ideas, module suggestions, etc, etc.) regarding the a100, dark energy and dark time.

also, do not forget to post your news about your creative output, using the a100/dark time/dark energy,(with other machines too of course), a100 live gigs, videos ,tracks, forthcoming albums, reviews, etc...

thanks,
best regards,    :-)
Bakis.

I have to agree with Bakis.

One quick question... can I sequence notes with quantizer, VCS, sample&hold, clock divider clock & sequencer? What more would I need?

I do understand the basic function of the modules, but I can't get my head around generating the voltages for the musical notes.... I have only used it for percussive-like stuff to the date.

As you can see, I am quite new in this, and need a little collaboration. Can anyone suggest patches?

Thanks!

start simple, connect the output of one of the knob rows to the v/octave input of your VCO. from there you can patch the quantizer btwn the 2 for quantized notes. if you use the first row of knobs on the quantizer, you have 1v 2v or another output choice, 1v is one octave, 2v two octaves, etc. I can't remember the 3rd option cause I never use it. you could also use the sample and hold to hold pitches, connect a trigger bus to the trigger input and your pitch cv to the main input of your s/h, now you won't get odd pitch changes unless you want them. kinda an on/off for each pitch knob. the other modules could be used with a trig/gate output and onto an envelope for vca or filter control.

if this makes sense. you are asking a huge question. start with 1-2 modules in you patch and add only what you need.

Hola David,

as per my previous post: yes, you can! What you need is a means of turning
trigger signals into continuous voltage signals. A mixer will do nicely, and
depending on the number of mixer input channels the A-160/168 combo will give
you 8 different notes max. Thus:

A-161 -> A-138 (input 1 tuned to C3)  -> A-110

A-161 -> A-138 (input 2 tuned to G3)  -> A-110

A-161 -> A-138 (input 3 tuned to F3)  -> A-110

A-161 -> A-138 (input 4 tuned to G3)  -> A-110

Instant blues machine!

A quantizer in this set up will help smooth out somewhat unstable voltage
outputs from the A-138.

Hope this helps,

York

add a a138 mixer and you have a nice 4 notes sequencer. if you want full featured sequencer go for the a155 though. for note sequencing you do not need the VCS, unless you want 16 steps.
