Dopefer DIY synth questions

Dopefer DIY synth questions

2010-05-19 by phono 1337

The new diy synth looks interesting but ive yet to find any full audio examples.

I've a few questions about the unit,

first is this a brand new design or is it based on the existing
dopefer range like the dark energy or something ? I already own an
a-111-5 so i'm jsut wondering about the tone.

Secondly is there any data on the dimensions of the board available, i
checked the manual but was unable to find anything.

Finally, how soon can we expect to see the unit available at major
distributors such as thomann?

thanks

Paul

It is definitely not an A-111-5; I cannot judge, how many existing
designs went into it. But it is not CEM based, so I think VCOs and VCF
are quite new designs

Dieter?

Also this must be answered by Dieter, but I'd wonder if Thomann would
sell this, because it is impossible to give warranty on a DIY part, and
as a shop they are obliged by law to provide warranty.

As we are totally busy at the moment (no crisis here) audio samples will
have to wait. But I hope there will come some samples as soon as the first
synths are built based on the DIY synth board. We also think about a kind of
"competition" where we publish pictures and sounds of synths based on the
DIY synth board on our website. All serious attendees (i.e. with real synth
made from the kit, not just a few pots connected to the board without a
case) will be rewarded by a voucher for a second board or the planned
expansion board (with noise, S&H, Midi-to-CV, mixer, ring modulator and some
other additions).

it's a totally new design based on the SSM2164 with optional temperature
compensation (a small temperature controlled heater that holds the SSM2164
at a certain temperature a bit above room temperature).

It not in the manual but on our website: ~ 201 length x 38 width x 20
height, measures in mm
I'll add the measures to the manual.

It depends upon the dealers. Most of the foreign representatives have
already ordered. Dealers like Thomann usually wait until the customers ask
(e.g. Thomann offered the Dark Energy about 2-3 months after the release
date). Please ask your favored dealer. I'm not sure if all dealers will
offer such a special DIY product as it's a bit different from their usual
product range.
