balis,
i think that the added features of the a-154 would certainly expand the
possibilities of using the sequencer as a "grahic vco", my experiments in
this area ( both with a previously owned serge tkb and the a-155 ) have led
me to feel that the "graphic vco" idea has merit for control waveforms but
when reaching audio frq`s, there isn`t enough variation to merit the extra
effort - the standard waveform choices provide a reasonable spread of
harmonic series for "day to day" use and the addition of things like linear
fm and various waveshapers ( doepfer a-136 is nice, i can also recommend the
blacet/wiard mini-wave ) provide enough extra waveform variety with less
effort and less expensive circuitry. better, IMHO, to make it the "best"
sequencer it can be and if audio use is limited, so be it.
not to have you think i`m a complete reactionary, i think that there is good
work to be done in the complex vco area and i`m waiing for someone to have
the vision to extend their linear fm vco to thru zero operation which is a
definite improvement over regular ( ala a-111 ) fm, just as one simple
example.
best,
dave
