Substituting MIS for Cone inkset in 1160 cis

For some years I have been using the Cone Warm Neutral inkset in an Epson 1160 CIS setup with very satisfactory results. I use MIS FS in a Epson 3000 with equally good results. (The 3000 is using the plugin which is set for the Cone inks; it gives a good, linear greyscale). I would like to switch from Cone to MIS FS with the 1160, because the inks are MUCH less expensive. But I am highly intimidated by the idea of setting up the CIS afresh. When Cone changed the formula of the black to Portfolio Black a while back, I did not start with a new cartridge and everything that involves like they told me I had to: I simply switched from the near-empty old-formula bottle to the full new formula, and it worked fine. Of course MIS says I have to start out with fresh carts if I want to use their ink, but I suspect this might be a bit of CYA...what is the worst that can happen other than needing to print a bunch of flush prints and perhaps adjusting profiles? --John Wilton
