More durable alternative to Innova Soft-textured Art?

More durable alternative to Innova Soft-textured Art?

2006-10-31 by chwhitaker

Greetings,

I've been using Innova Soft-textured Art for a while, doing black-only
printing of MIS Eboni, and I'm quite happy with the look of my prints,
but I'd like to find a paper that's not quite so delicate as the
Innova. Much of what I do is of family and friends, and I know many of
the copies I give away will lead hard lives, and I'd like them to be
long ones. I'm looking for a matte paper with the same excellent D-max
as the Innova, that's a bit more physically durable -- preferably like
Ilford Multigrade fiber base, but I suppose that's too much to ask
for. Any suggestions? Thanks to whoever can help.

I have very good results with the new Hahnemuhle Musem Etching 100%
rag paper. I've done hundereds of prints on it and haven't noticed one
scuff mark yet. It is a lot more durable and doesn't scuff like the
German Etching. It also has a better dmax than Innova and I consider
it a much superior paper, especially for black and white. It is my
favorite paper with the PiezoTone NK6 inkset.

I don't know about you guys, but I've found the Innva matte papers are
far more delicate before printing than after.

John

John,

Thanks to you and charleysfabrics for your responses. It's amazing how
many papers there are out there, and how quickly the selection keeps
changing. Good news, I suppose. Anyway, I appreciate your suggestions.
I also found the following useful:
http://www.cjcom.net/articles/digiprn5.htm. As the author says, it's
one person's opinion, but very useful as an overview, especially for
someone like me who isn't immersed, full time, in digital printing. Ciao!

John, I find it to be a fragile paper beginning to end, that is why I
started spraying my prints.
