Paul said in another thread some time ago that the Permajet Monochrome Pro ink set are very similar to UT2. I have been trying the Permajet and find that the U&2 curves really don't work well. So the question is How similar are these two? Should the UT2 curves work? Keith

What printer? The version for the 2100 is like the UT7. This may be what's happening. Paul www.PaulRoark.com <http://www.paulroark.com/> _____

Sorry I should ave said. It;s a 1290. i managed to get a working one from 2 free broken ones, so I am trying it out. At the moment I am very unimpressed with the results from Monochromepro. The prints using PS curves are poor, The UT2 curves don't seem right and the curves from northlight-images don't seem right either. In fact none of them are as good as the print I get from my 2100 (using Lyson Fotonic dye (yes I know..) inks and a curve I managed to liniarize using a scanner. I need to decide whether to keep with the 1290 - maybe using real UT2 inks, or sell it and get a 2400 for colour and switch the 2100 to UT7 or something. or maybe even just use the 2400 with QTR fro B&W. Will the 1290 ever be better than the 2400/OTR combo? Thanks Keith --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "Paul Roark" <paul.roark@...> wrote: > > What printer? Keith, You have a lot of unknowns so it's pretty hard to tell what's wrong. I'm not familiar with the Permajet inks but QTR does have profiles for UT2 inks on the 1280/1290. First, I'd make sure your printer is printing all the inks -- nozzle checks. Then try out QTR with some of the profiles. If it's still not to your liking you need to be more explicit about the problem. Roy --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "keith_r_smith_99" <keith@...> wrote:

I think it puts too much color in the "Advanced B&W" mode printing. That's why I have one set up with MIS LK, LLK and even LLK in the Y spot. (MIS LK and LLK are warmer than Epson K3 and give this setup a better range.) Then it uses the minimum amount of color and makes prints that are about as good as it gets. A 1290 that is working correctly can visually match the 2400, but it would be slower. Re-check all the settings by looking at my UT2 write-up at http://home1.gte.net/res09aij/UT2-Readme.htm Also, print see the test files I have at http://home1.gte.net/res09aij/Test-files.htm These will tell you whether the inks are loaded correctly. Good luck. Paul www.PaulRoark.com

Thanks Paul and Roy for you input. I have given up on the 1290 - I could not get it to print consistently using either the curves or QTR - nozzel clogs etc. I will probably get a 2400 soon and use that for B&W until I convert the 2100 to UT7. keith [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
