QTR & Create ICC on a Windows Platform

QTR & Create ICC on a Windows Platform

2006-03-14 by Louis Dina

For us disadvantaged souls on an XP platform, I'd like a little
guidance on how to use the Create ICC profiles when printing with QTR.

Before Create-ICC came along, I would edit the file using Roy's Gray-
Lab working space and convert my file to the generic gray-matte.icc
(for matte output) or gray-photo.icc (for luster/glossy output) when
ready to print. I'd then place this converted file into QTR and
print. QTR ignores tagged profiles (or at least it used to) and just
sends the numbers in the file to the QTR profile for final handling.
It gave me good output, but I wasn't able to see any color when soft
proofing in Photoshop.

With the Create-ICC profiles, I can now soft proof in Photoshop and see
tonality AND color. But, I still have to import the file into QTR for
printing(since XP won't allow me to output through Photoshop to QTR).

1. Would you still edit in Gray-Lab and save it as a tagged file?

2. Do I convert my edited image to my Create_ICC profile and save
before importing into QTR for printing?

3. If not, what do I do so my monitor matches my print?

Thanks,

Lou

No just use whatever workspace you feel comfortable with. I use GG2.2.

I believe this has to be done for Windows users because you can't do the
conversion on the fly. Do exactly as you would with the generic ICC
profiles (grey matte and grey photo or whatever they were called)

N/A. Exactly the same as for colour (printing and soft proofing) except for
the blip about having to do a full conversion to the output space rather
than an on-the-fly conversion at printing. You can discard the file that
has been converted to the device-dependent output space once you've finished
with the printing.
