The ImagePrint discussion is a very involved one. To keep it simple,
they use a single formula for ink limits and linearization and build
that formula into the inkset. So, the UC inkset with the matte black
ink will have one formula - period. If that amount of ink works well
with the paper you are using, you will get a good print. If not, you
will have a non-optimum amount of ink, which will result in poor Dmax
and color gamut. I agree it is very expensive for what you get. It
has some nice layout features, but those alone aren't worth the price
in my opinion.
QTR is discussed regularly on this forum. You can download a free
trial at www.quadtonerip.com. If you like it, you pay a fee of
$50US. QTR is ONLY for use with B&W, or toned B&W images, but will
work with any inkset (quad inks, color inks, etc.).
