what do you call your prints?
2006-03-05 by jean wall penland
since i use the epson 2200, i call my work (fine art, photographs,
images worked upon with PS, graphic art or scanned) "archival UC
prints" / paintings are "acrylic on canvas", "mixed media on
paper", "etching and aquatint", "watercolour on Ilford" . . . and
drawings are "graphite on stonehenge" or "mixed media on arches" or
"pastel on BFK" / simple is better as a rule
"archival" handles many questions (it will not die in the next 6 months)
and "UC" they will ask about if they care and "print" indicates there is
some process between my hand and brain and creativity, some tool other
than a hand-picked-up-and-hand-cleanable one, between thought and image
on the wall / i am a purist but the world of art is no longer
"pure", if ever it was, and yes, i consider photography as art /
art comes on many levels / and the criteria for judgement comes
on many levels and there can and may be satisfaction on all those
levels / and i can appreciate art that i do not necessarily
have to like /
back to the quiet masses here who lurk and read each day, but who know
many of you fairly well now / jwp
