A quickie question re: BO printing. Is the only difference in performance between the 2200 and 220 for BO the max size of prints one can do? Are the outputs for 8x10s equivalent? Best to all, Ginny

Ginny The drivers on my 220 don't allow BO printing. There is a monochrome option, but in my case this turns things blue, so I guess it uses at least one colour ink. I'd be very interested to know if anyone has a different experience, and if so, where I could get my hands on the same drivers. Hello Ginny, >Is the only difference in performance between the 2200 and 220 for BO >the max size of prints one can do? Are the outputs for 8x10s >equivalent? Yes and no (don't you love those answers <g>). Yes in that to the unaided eye it is very difficult to tell them apart. No in that with a loupe the 2200 print will show less fine dither banding. Printing with High speed off makes a big difference with my 200. My 2200 did better with High Speed on. I'm confused by Chris's statement that his 220 doesn't allow BO. I have a 200, which does, and I seem to recall that 220 owners have previously said they can do BO, although I can't say for certain. Ginny, can you verify that your 220 can? That is strange. On my 220 there is a "black ink only" check box on the Advanced settings page in all modes except "Photo RPM", in which case the option is replaced with "Super Micro weave". That's a hair replacement technique, I believe? Bob --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, Sam McCandless <samcc@...> wrote:

Or maybe he is using the limited driver that comes with windows?

Hi guys The mystery is solved. Back at home last night I double checked the print dialogue box - it actually had a checkbox for 'grayscale' (not 'monochrome' as per my initial post). To be specific, this was the Windows XP driver originally supplied with a UK printer (if it makes a difference). I didn't note the driver version - I can find out if anyone needs to know. I then downloaded the latest XP driver from the Epson website (v5.5bAs) and installed this. Hey presto, the 'grayscale' checkbox has been replaced with a 'black ink only' checkbox. And the blue cast has gone from the output. Thanks for prompting me to try this. Chris

I'm glad that's working for you, Chris. And I hope referring to you as "he" wasn't a big faux pas on my part. At the other extreme: my gloss black and warm yellow carts have arrived, so my little R220 now has 14 cartridges in use!?!? Hi Bob No, you were right first time - I am a he. I just checked out my printer set up and it's the same as yours, with super micro weave etc. 'Best photo' seems to give pretty good results, so I haven't tried the 'photo rpm' setting, even for colour. I guess when my R2 inks arrive I could give this a try, and see what 'super-micro weave' output looks like. (Actually I preferred it when you chose a numeric dpi setting - seemed a little clearer.) Hi Chris, Thanks for the reassurance. I tried SMW only once and decided it wasn't worth the time penalty. Today I can only guess at which of the set of comparison prints were printed with SWM on. This was with OEM inks. But if you're the type who is willing to experiment with third party monochrome pigment inks, you'll probably need to try it yourself anyway, so all I can do is warn you to have something else to do for a while. I hope you have as much fun with the R220 and R2 inks as I am having. Bob --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "Chris Ellis" <christian.ellis@...> wrote:
