Walt et al,

Another problem with refilling small carts from large carts is that the life
of the ink in the large carts is only a month or so after opening them, I
believe.

My understanding is that the 2400 carts are about 11 ml; and the 4800
110 ml carts are actually widely available (from IT supplies for one
example) at $55. So these figures shift the balance considerably.

Oh, oh, that's a serious issue that needs more research. Where did
you hear this?

Clayton

Hi Clayton,

Well, Epson state that ink should be used within 6 months of the carts being
opened, but on one list recently, there was advice not to buy a 4000/4800
just for the larger carts unless you were printing frequently enough to use
the carts within a month or so.

Epson claims 6 months after opening, so I would guess it might
actually be twice that.

But it also depends on how sterile your environment is. If you
introduce the correct type of fungus, it will grow in the inks rather
quickly.

I've probably put this link in here before, but can't remember so
here it is again:

Seems like a good way to use the larger carts with the smaller
printers.

Based on what scientific tests?
