R220 cartridge woes

R220 cartridge woes

2006-01-25 by vmixer42

Any tips for getting the R220 to recognize 3rd party carts? I'm using the MIS UTR2 inkset and
when I last ran out of cyan, it refused to accept either of two brand new MIS carts. in this
position. I tried the things MIS tech. support suggested (shimming, pulling the power cord
during cart replacement, bending the tabs, overstuffing the chip cavity), but nothing seems
to work. In desperation, I threw in the OEM Epson cyan cart which it took just fine (so at least
I can print BO for my next photo class assignment). Anything else I should try? Thanks in
advance for any help...

The suppliers of chips to the third-party re-sellers have been sending some
incorrectly labeled products. Use the OEM chip until MIS replaces the bad
chip with a correct one. To use the OEM chip, you'll need a chip re-setter,
which is a cheap item. Use a sharp knife to shave off the plastic pins that
hold the chip onto the OEM cart. It should fit the MIS cart easily. I use
a 1/8" wide strip of tape across the top of the chip and sides of the cart
to hold the chip on.

Thanks Paul... I gather I shouldn't try to move the OEM chip onto one of the MIS carts without
resetting it first?

You can move it over any time. It'll just show the same level as before.
