QTR anguish

QTR anguish

2004-12-30 by Stephen Billard

I have some (perhaps) good news.

While testing the cleanup program I was able to experience the problems some
of you have been having--Printing but nothing happens. If you have DEBUG
set, the Command window flashes by.

I think that something must be wrong in the copy of QTRgui 2.1.7 that is in
the QuadToneRIP version 2.1c. I have created what should be the same thing,
but called it version 2.1.8 and posted it on
www.sbillard.org/Shareware/QTRgui.htm. So far I haven't seen the problem
with this copy. The only concern I have is that the problem with the other
2.1.7 copy was not persistent and I can't figure out what was different when
it worked from when it did not.

I still recommend you run the cleanout program and start with a fresh
install of QuadToneRIP 2.1c. Then install QTRgui 2.1.8 over top of that
install.

Stephen
First, many thanks for the speed you have posted responses to this
problem. Unfortunately, the bad news is that I get the same problem
after using the cleanup, and then reinstalling.
Before that I was getting an attempt to print to my Epson 4000, but
although, Roll Paper cutter on was selected, the printer failed to
print and requested sheet feed mode. The debug screen confirmed that
the right setting was recorded but even that was too small to read
all the text and not resizeable. Hope this helps.

Went through the proceedure, clean everything, instal 2.8 over the
previous version with the same problem remaining.

2.7 works as it should if installed on the same drive as the photo
files (C:) Just won't print files on any other drive. I can live
with it since C: is getting full any way.

What is the value of "ripFeed" shown in the QTRgui log?

Do you have log files from when it fails to print with an image on a
different drive? I print all the time from images on my "D" drive--that's
where I keep all my photos. My install is in C:\Program Files\QuadToneRIP.

What drive is QTR installed on. What drive has the pictures?

Stephen,

I ran the cleanout program and installed 2.1.8. Same problem. I can
only print if I rename the qtrguilog.txt to .bat and run that. In my
case, it does not matter what drive the tif file is on.

Thanks for all your work in creating the GUI and for working to fix
any problems that come up.

Well, that's the right value. Must be something that is not happening in
QuadToPrinter. Roy will have to check it out.

In this test case, my photo is on drive C:, root directory. QTR is on
drive H:/program files/Quadtone RIP.

The QTRLog1.txt file says "The system could not find the path
specified" That log file was in the same folder as the photo file.
No other log file was generated on either drive.

Could you send me the log files? All of them. Maybe I can figure out

One happy QTR user

2005-02-24 by Ronald Wu

Million thanks go to Stephen and Roy for their
printing application. I was very happy to see my first
print out to be exactly what I wanted.

Its running on Win2K, 2200 printer using all UC inks,
(Photo Black). E Matte and Luster photo paper. First
time install on V2.2a, print directly from GUI.

Maybe I was lucky, the installation went smoothly and
I was able to print in 10 minutes after I had it all
setup.

I was going to go with C86 and MIS EZN inkset but now
I can print both color and b+w using the same printer.

I do have a small problem (nothing is perfect, right
?), that is the printer will eject a blank page
between prints (different file) if I keep the GUI open
the whole time. My image is well within the range of
the paper, so it wasn't trying to print the second
page of the file. Other then that, a great product.

Ron
