Joe,

I've been using GF for a couple of years and have made 20"x30" prints of
both large jpeg's and CRW files from my 10D. Also I have a friend that does
large format printing and routinely does very large Prints (4'X12') using GF
for both digital images and slides scanned at 2700 and 4000 dpi. This is a
good program (much, much better than PhotoShop), but I don't understand the
cost you quote - mine cost $99.00 when I bought it, has the cost gone up
that much? Hope this helps your decision.

And while I'm on the subject, has anyone installed Genuine Fractals 2.0 on a
system using OS 10.3.3 and PhotoShop CS. Mine runs fine on OS 9.2.2 and
PhotoShop 7, but when I install it on the above combination nothing with the
.stn tag will open or show up in the browser. My friend who I referenced
above uses a PC with XP and CS and has no trouble - perhaps I need a new
version of GF to work with OS 10, that's what I'm afraid of ($300?).

Roger,
Thanks for your imput. I downloaded a trial version
of GF Print Pro and it works fine on my G5 10.3.3 and
CS. They have three different versions of GF and the
$300 dollar program is Print Pro. They do have two
other programs running GF for considerably less but
with fewer advantages.

Re: Genuine Fractals question

2004-04-08 by Mark Hahn

I did a fair amount of testing with GF and frankly was disappointed.
I felt that I could easily do better in PS going in small steps with
variable sharpening along the way. I friend of mine is currently
working with a top name person in digital printing who has said that
he prefers Fred Miranda's stair interpolation routine to GF.

The term "lossless" is very misleading here... even nearest neighbor
interpolation is "lossless." What you need is predictive
interpolation which doesn't yet exist.

I'd try Miranda's routine which is probably something like $10 before
shelling out $300 for GP.

mark

PS I don't have any actual experience with FM stuff or the stair
interpolator, but I have lots of friends who love his stuff.
