BO on Epson 3000

BO on Epson 3000

I use PS7, Windows and Epson 3000 w/ MIS quadtones. Tried a BO and
was amazed at the richness and smoother transtions. However, details
in the shadows are lost and the overall print is darker. Is a 3000
perhaps not the right printer to do BO? I'd appreciate any info from
those who still print on the antique 3000. Many thanks, Arlene

Arlene: In BO printing you need to compensate for dot gain, which is
what makes the pictures too dark. Our own Clayton Jones explains it
here:

Hope this helps. See my next post for an alternate method.

It is possible that just some settings need to be changed. Does the
image look good (able to see the shadow detail) on screen? If so, the
dark print may be caused by a mis-match between front end and back end
profiles, which is important for BO printing. These are explained in
article #4 at the web site below. If it looks good on screen then you
should be able to get a matching print with BO. It is able to show
shadow detail very well.

Regards,
Clayton
