i1Studio and its B&W profiles

2017-11-11 by yg_1@...

You may have seen that X-Rite have released a follow up to the ColorMunki Photo, the i1Studio.

Amongst its features are B&W icc profiles...

I've had a good look at it and written up a lengthy review of all it does at:

The good thing is that the software is a free upgrade for ColorMunki Photo users

However, don't remove your old software too soon, since the new software drops a few things like saving patch measurements. The new i1Studio device won't work with the old ColorMunki software packages either. Measurement wise there is no difference between models, but USB id changes mean that the old software just doesn't recognise the newer device.

Profiling quality is excellent, although I expect the B&W functionality (covered in the review) won't necessarily be a great attraction to real B&W print fans.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
