Free(ish) Eboni Carbon Variable Tone Ink
2016-09-12 by rdeloe1@...
In February, 2016, I mixed up a batch of Eboni Carbon Variable Tone ink using Paul's formulation as described here: http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/3880-Eboni-Variable-Tone.pdf
I mixed it for my Epson 1430, using MIS Eboni 1.1, and I used Paul's recommended ratio of 25% combined Canon Lucia Blue and Cyan, and 75% C6b. I mixed it carefully by volume. It profiled well and worked flawlessly for me.
The catch is this ink was for a show my employer asked me to mount in support of an event, so I bought the Eboni and supplies with work funds. The Canon Blue and Cyan I bought with my own funds because I planned to mix up a batch for myself later.
Anyway... long story short, soon after I finished the show for work, which I printed using my personal 1430, I upgraded to a 3880, sold my 1430, and mixed a new batch of Eboni Variable Tone for my own use, this time by weight and using a litre of STS Eboni. I have more than enough for my own needs in my new batch, and I re-profile every time I mix new inks anyway, so that original batch is orphaned.
Assuming the ink lasts at least a year, it's perfectly usable (mixed Feb 2016). I don't need it, and I don't want to flush it. I have three full sets in 2oz bottles. If you've always wanted to experiment with Eboni Variable Tone, now's your chance!
All I want out of this is the cost of shipping from Ontario, Canada to wherever you are, plus $10 USD for your share of the Canon inks that I paid for. The first three people to contact me and arrange to cover the cost each can have a full set. Please note that shipping anywhere in Canada is reasonable, shipping in the US starts to get a bit expensive (with tracking), and shipping overseas with tracking can be quite expensive.
And a bonus offer! If you have nearly empty Epson 3880 Magenta or Vivid Light Magenta carts that you're willing to mail to me, I'll pay the first $15 CAD of shipping my ink to you and call it square (but carts can't have been declared empty by your printer or I can't refill them). If you have other 3880 carts, let me know; we might be able to work something out because it's handy to have spares.
To avoid wasting your time, I will post follow-ups on this thread to indicate whether or not ink is still available.
