4900 Project

I received a used Epson 4900 that I hope to be able to turn into a black and white printer. I have been working to clean it up and getting it firing on a minimum of seven 'cylinders'. I have now demonstrated that it really only has three.
I thought I was making progress but conflicting results caused me to post some information in another forum. From that post I was advised that I should stop using a 10-color purge page to test with and use the QTR calibration test page - which I did. Alas the QTR test page proved that my initial status of three working channels has not changed despite numerous ink charges, cleaning and other efforts. Only three channels are functioning.
I have a second head that I can install, which will demonstrate whether the issue is with the head or elsewhere. (Though it won't demonstrate where else!) If it turns out the head is the issue and the second head still can't print seven channels cleanly, I'll be looking for a used 4900 head with no more than three dead colors.
