The ironic twist is that it's a color inkset.

The Epson driver for the 4000 (which used UltraChrome pigments) is sufficiently close to how the Noritsu dyes print that I believe very good color and B&W are within easy reach of users and ICCs. A simply PS *.acv curve that neutralized the grays (like I do for QTR) produced a color print that looks better than what I get from the 1400 and the Claria (native inkset) and Noritsu (bulk source) inks. For B&W, the Lab L curve is more similar to the standard Gray Gamma 2.2 than QTR's straight line image.

In short, Epson 4xxx printers with the Epson-Noritsu dyes appear to result in a very useful printer format for glossy printing. I have been using the 17" roll paper version of Red River Paper's "Polar Pearl Metallic." (There is something unique about these metallic papers.) And did I mention no settling or clogs due to the dyes? I know why Epson is producing the SureLab D3000.

My 4000 "NK2" setup is described at http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/4000-Noritsu-2K.pdf .

Hi Paul,

II went to the pdf and downloaded the qtr profiles for the 1400. I am really excited to see how the metallic papers can be used. Once I unzipped the file, I could not see the profiles in QTR. I tried to put them in various printer profiles 1400 mis ect, no luck. I also reinstalled the software and tried again, just in case I had buggered a setting.

I can see the profiles in windows explorer, in the proper folder, I did a copy and paste, and also unzipped to the location as well. But nothing shows up in QTR interface, just the preloaded profiles

Any suggestions?

Scott

You have to open and save the QTR profiles. When you save a profile, it makes a *.quad file that is what the program actually uses. With QTR, open the "Curve Creator" and use it to open and save the profiles, one at a time as needed.

I hope this takes care of the problem

Hi Paul.

You have piqued my interest. I wouldn't mind having some eye catching black and white prints to draw folks in. Frankly, I'd love to do the same with some dye based colour prints. Can you see any barriers to implementing this (b/w and colour) on an Epson 3800?

Are you typically framing and matting these under glass?
