Bulk ink - Lyson vs Cone vs ??? R3000

2014-03-06 by <a_langhans@...>

hi. Been lurking for years, and wondering if anyone has any experience with the above inks in the Epson R3000. I just purchased one, and it is fabulous for B&W, especially compared with my old R1800. Fantastic color, too, for anyone who is interested. But I don't want to pay the large price for Epson ink.

My research has narrowed it down to Cone or Lyson, leaning towards Lyson after looking at the test prints they both sent me.

But I am wondering if there is any wisdom out there on these. Which match Epson inks closely? Any clogging problems? Ease of filling their respective refillable cartridges? Anything else you can think of,

Thanks in advance.

Hi Aram,

I'm using Cone's pigment inks in my Epson 3800 with their refillable carts. I can see no difference in colour profiles, brilliance or tendency to clog from Epson's OEM inks, and the cost is a fraction. If you go with Cone's carts be sure to carefully follow their instructions WRT transferring chips from original Epson carts to the refillable carts and installing Cone's chips on top of the OEM chips.

I've been using ink from PrecisionColors and find it matches Epson's ink exactly. I printed out a test strip of all Epson inks with each color separated to it's own square and then, after making the switch, printed out the same color strip with the new ink. It's an exact match. Here's a link to your printer's page; you'll find these cost about 1/2 what the other inks you mentioned are charging. If you do a bunch of Googling, you will find out that all these little companies do not make their own inks, but redistribute inks, under their own brand names, made by larger companies, some of which distribute globally.

I am just curious how scientific you evaluation procedure was. So you have no d-max numbers?

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
