PremierArt Smooth BW Paper

PremierArt Smooth BW Paper

2013-02-11 by rfsteckmeyer

I just tried to buy some of this paper and was informed that it has been discontinued. Is this true? If so what are former users switching to that is comparable? Thanks

The web page still seems to have it listed:
http://premierimagingproducts.com/pm_smoothbwfineart.php

I have also recently talked to their rep, and he claims is it available.

Their affiliated retailer, "Photo warehouse" at
http://www.ultrafineonline.com/ will be able to drop ship it from
California if your usual retailer does not have it. Since their web page
it not the best, a call to 800-922-5484 should work.

Epson Hot Press natural is an excellent paper also, but not really the same
as the Premier Art Smooth BW.

The predecessor of the PA Smooth BW was Brightcube Eclipse. Photo
Warehouse actually still has some of that old stock available.

Two weeks ago, I used the Contact Us email on the premierimaging site to
ask them what distributors were carrying their papers, after trying all
the ones they listed on their site, and finding that none of them actually
carried the paper.

I never received a reply.

If anyone knows someone over there at Premier, they should tell them that
1) their Contact Us email address isn't monitored, and 2) their
distributor list is woefully out of date.

Unfortunately, this is quite enough to steer me clear of their papers,
however good or useful they might have been.

My main contact at Premier Imaging left. The current information is from
their 800 line - have no idea what is really going on there.

I moved away from their paper for a number of reasons. The OBAs are not
considered "fine art" by many. On the other hand, there still is no
bright paper that can deliver the look of the Premier Art Smooth BW with
Eboni-6. I now throw in some HP PK to cool the Eboni on Epson Hot Press
when I need a cooler image.

I have bought this paper, as recently as early January 2013, from Inkjetart.com:

I've been round and round looking for that paper, too. But as recently as last April, I had an e-mail correspondence with a Matt Anderson at InkjetArt and he told me that Premier Art paper is also available under their house brand: "Museum Digital". I just checked and they have a pretty thorough listing under that name.

If you want to get in touch with him at InkjetArt to verify that, here's his e-address: matta@...

But it is odd, that this product is so elusive. I use the 205 gsm weight myself, which is even harder to find. I like it because it's printable on both sides, so if I screw up a print I can use the other side for work prints... and it's less expensive to begin with because of the lighter weight. But it's plenty thick enough for my purposes. And according to Paul R., this is the same paper as the Epson Scrapbook paper, one of the most archival papers around.

Hope this helps,

Paul

oops... guess this site doesn't allow e-addresses. That would be: matta(at)inkjetart(dot)com
