Epaon 1400 vs. 1430 Cartridges

Epaon 1400 vs. 1430 Cartridges

2013-01-19 by remononaz1

I just purchased and installed a new 1430 to go with my 1400 so that I can now print black and white and color without changing carts. After getting the 1430 up an running I loaded it with my MIS color carts. It does not recognize them at all - say the printer is out of ink and won't print. I loaded the Epson carts just to prove the machine is OK and they work fine.

I have submitted a question about this to MIS, but while I'm waiting to hear for them, does anyone know if there is something different about the 1430 and its carts that would cause this? Is there a setting in machine setup that I am unaware of?

Re: [Digital BW] Epaon 1400 vs. 1430 Cartridges

I had a similar issue. I tried to use some 3rd party refillable carts
that had worked fine with my 1400 in a new 1430, they did not work like
yours. I had a set of "new" refillable carts from Inkjetmall.com (Jon
Cone) , I tried these in the 1430 and they work just fine. Perhaps some
programming is missing in the older carts that the 1430 expects and when
not detected the printer refuses to use.

Hope this helps

Cheers

The MIS cartridges didnt work in my 1430 either. I bought 3rd party refillable cartridges from ebay (Hong Kong). I have read a suggestion that there are different cartridges required depending on where in the world you got your printer but I dont know if it is true.

I think (but as I am not at home, I cant check) that 1430 cartridges can be labled 79 or 81 and the MIS ones are 79's. My printer worked with the 81 series cartridges

Check the Epson site to see if the 1400 and 1430 use the same cart #s. I
think they do. I believe I've seen comments on this forum and from MIS
that the 1430 runs the same carts.

One thing I'd like to know also, however, is whether the 1430 will accept a
mix of Epson and MIS carts. My 1400s do, which is rather handy for me.
That is something I expect Epson could stop with software and get away
with.

Be sure what you are seeing is not just a warning that you're running third
party carts. I do think Epson software detects non-Epson carts and
sometimes flashes a warning.

No word back from MIS yet. Perhaps they have MLK day off. I've looked at a number of web posts indicating that something is up with the 1430 and the cartridge chip. I hadn't anticipated this. I have five set of the MIS cartridges, so replacing them all would cost as much as the printer.

Keeping the printer for Epson-only ink has some value, but with its wireless feature, this will be the 'public' printer in my house. I'd much rather use my dedicated printer for Epson inks and let the others here print with MIS inks.

I haven't opened the new Epson cartridges yet; perhaps I'll send the thing back.

Re. the Epson Artisan 1430 and Epson Stylus Photo 1400,
MIS has a set of empty carts.

MIS states, "Note: We Do Not Support Mixing OEM, Remanufactured, Empty, Or
Compatible Cartridges, As Chip Issues May Result From Not Matching Sets.
For This Reason We Only Offer These Empty Cartridges As A Complete Set."

I find that I can mix the MIS carts I have with OEM Claria carts in my
1400s, but I have never tested a 1430. The disclaimer by MIS suggests a
mixed set may be a problem, or at the very minimum, you're on your own if
you do this.

Hi Paul,

As soon as a new bottle of Edwal arrives, I will be mixing and setting
up Noritsu 2K2LK for my new 1430. I plan on initially trying a mix of
Noritsu in MIS cartridges for the first four positions and Epson Claria
cartridges in the yellow and light magenta positions. I'll see if the
mixed cartridges work in the 1430. It would surely be convenient if this
mix works. If it doesn't, do you have any suggestions for good bulk
yellow and light magenta to use in MIS cartridges? I don't plan on
buying any Noritsu except for the K that I have now and I hesitate using
MIS dye for this ink set.

Thanks,
Tom Hefter

Yes, please let us know. This is what I had in mind with that setup. It
works great in the 1400.

You might want to just pull the colors out of the 1430 Claria carts and put
it in the MIS carts. If you buy the Claria M (no LM), after you dilute it
with the generic base (30% Claria M to 70% base), the cost of the LM
becomes quite reasonable.

I don't know much about the MIS dyes. I assume they would not be as
lightfast.

Can you not take the chips from the epson cartridges and swap them onto the
ones from MIS? Ive done that with other printers and it works no problems.
I havent seen a 1400 or 1430 though so have no idea what the cartridges
look like.

I don't think that works with the 1400/1430, but I have not tried it.
The MIS chips are on platforms that slide out so that they can be
easily swapped within the MIS 1400/30 cart set, but the Epson chips
are not on a similar platform.

Paul,

This sounds like a good idea and a solution if the mixed cartridge
approach doesn't work in the 1430. I should know within a week and will
post it.

Thanks. However, if the mixed cartridges don't work in the 1430, I'll
try Paul's suggestion on transferring Claria ink to MIS cartridges. The
idea of swapping chips never appealed to my semi disabled hands.
