Re:B&W or Color with one printer

Must the OEM Claria inkset be used or might a 3rd party inkset be acceptable, such as one from MIS Associates? The cost advantage with the MIS inks is substantial. 2. What about clogging issues? I've not used Epson printers but have read in the past this has been a problem. Maybe this only applies to pigment inks. 3. Are there other similar printer/workflows I should be researching that might apply? I appreciate any and all input. Thanks,Lynn ************************************ While I have a 1430 that is used with the E6 inkset (home made) I did use the original cartridges and printed some color it flushed easily. My wife uses a Canon 9000 for Scrapbooking and I am using the OCP inks for it, the results are very good and prints made with OCP inks with other printers are still lookin good after 6 years but I do not wall display these they are in binders and sleeves. My mom did oil painting and sold and after her death I placed her remaining work on my walls so I have no first hand knowledge of light fastness but I see others on this list refer to OCP and they are easily available in Europe as OCP is a German firm. Their ink is inexpensive running around $20 a quart in the US. She prints hundreds of 12 X 12 pages a year and hundreds of letter sized prints quarts last her about a year to 2 years depending on Color. I am currently using Red River Premium Matte for all our photo needs. Since it seems you are UK based I will not bore you with US info My choice was to get the 1430 and use the carbon inkset I am a retired engineer so I researced on line for about 6 months prior to committing to a printer and inkset with my background I mixed Pauls Base and bought a bottle of Eboni and mixed the inkset. I am a hobby photographer and this has served me well. While I do not switch I would not have a problem except for the ink pad error message which is fixable I suggest whatever printer you get that you install an external waste ink bottle cleans and purges use a lot of ink and changing out an ink soaked pad appears to be a nasty job the external tank is an easy job taking me a couple of hours and I worked slow and took photos and made notes of what I did so I could get it back together. I bought the parts at a hobby shop and use a baby food jar with a hole drilled in the lid. There are pre packaged kits available and they are affordable. I am comfortable that the prints in the scrapbooks will last a long time as for the prints from our trips I do most I like as a letter sized print and for those that I want to keep I print in E6 on Epson Scrapbook These are some from the trips but mostly photos of family that I think will be passed down and need the possibility of lasting 100 years. I have a few tintypes of my G Grandmother and her family and many other older photos that I wanted to provide additional copies and wanted them to live long. The photos of our trips to Europe and the UK and those of the US southwest ruins and canyons will be lost and forgotten but photos of a grandchilds birthdays will be kept for generations to come.
