QTR-ICC is Lr4

QTR-ICC is Lr4

2012-12-08 by remononaz1

I have several ICCs I've created using the QTR Create-ICC tool. I'd like to print an image using Lr4 so that I can take advantage of its output sharpening. However, the ICCs refuse to show up in Lr4. They are where they are supposed to be and work fine with CS4, so I'm assuming there is something about them Lr4 does not like.

I have heard that Lr requires RGB-ICCs. If I created the black-only ICCs using the Create ICC-RGB tool for black only curves, will those work with Lr?

This would be somewhat difficult to do since I don't think I kept the original .txt files for the paper and ink in question, but I suppose I could do it again if this would create an ICC acceptable to Lr4.

Open your old ICC with Notepad. The text information you need for Create
ICC-RGB appears to be there. Give it a try and see if it works in LR4.

No, if I open an ICC with Notepad, I get a bunch of gibberish. I recreated the ICC I was using without too much trouble using the Create ICC-RGB tool and it works fine in Lr.

I'm taking some advise I saw in one of your write ups and deleting the desktop short cut for the plain Create ICC. I'll use the Create ICC-RGB for all ICCs from now on.

BTW, I think I may have sorted out my issues with creating an ICC with a curve. It involves the use of the Q13 scale for calibration. I'll make a separate post after I work with it some more.

Interesting. This is what I see when I open an ICC with Notepad:

Maybe the form of the data saved by the ColorData Spyder3Print is different
than what you used.

Good. I assumed the problem with that, like most applications, LR4 just
does not recognize the "grayscale" ICCs made by Create ICC (as opposed to
Create ICC-RGB).
