Interesting.  This is what I see when I open an ICC with Notepad:

Maybe the form of the data saved by the ColorData Spyder3Print is different
than what you used.

I recreated the ICC I was using without too much trouble using the Create
> ICC-RGB tool and it works fine in Lr.

Good.  I assumed the problem with that, like most applications, LR4 just
does not recognize the "grayscale" ICCs made by Create ICC (as opposed to
Create ICC-RGB).
