Cone K3 Pigment Inks in Epson 1400

Cone K3 Pigment Inks in Epson 1400

2012-09-26 by remononaz1

I know this is a bit off-topic for this list, but I also know there are people on this list who can address my question ;-)

I have been using MIS dye inks for color prints with my 1400. They are inexpensieve, look good but fade fast. Cone Color has a set of pigment inks that they claim work well in the 1400, have good color and are very durable.

Has anyone tried this combination? If so, are there any clogging issues or other difficulties I should be aware of? Cone claims the inks will work with default Epson settings and they have developed a number of ICCs for popular papers. For $130 to get set up with about 5 refills-worth of ink, this seems like a very good value.

Any comments?

Pigmented inks will always cause you more grief in terms of maintenance than dyes ever did. But reports I've heard are that Cone's colors are good.Just keep the wiper blade of your printer clean, and you should be in good shape.

Another tip on the dye inks, try spraying your prints with any of the print sprays. Air oxidation on microporous papers is the biggest cause of fade. The print spray seals the ink from air. This should easily make your prints last a lot longer.
