Hello All, I looking into getting refillable cartridges for my 4800 and Possibly 7600 as well. Is there really any difference in the ones available? The price difference from Cone (expensive) to MIS (a little less) and eBay (cheap) is quite substantial. I'm probably going to use Cone Color inks for both color and QTR printing. Thanks in advance, J.

I use cone color refillable in my 3800, compared to what OEM would be I save a lot of $$, customer service is good. I use the vivid and have had to profile papers but am very pleased with the inks.Patrick

I have both the MIS and the Cone refillable carts for the 9600 and older printers and they both have worked perfectly for me but I turn my chip reading on the printer OFF. They are very similar and the prices seem about the same. I think when you get into the more recent printers there might be some differences there in the cart design, maybe not. john --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, Mark Savoia <mark@...> wrote:

Thanks for the answers. Has anyone used the cheap ebay units? They're about half the cost. Thanks, J. --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "mojojones2001" <mojojones@...> wrote:

I've used Cone refillable cart's exclusively in my 4800 and 1400. There has rarely been an issue with them and if there was an issue they gave immediate support &/or replacement. I'll be ordering refillables form them for my 3800 as well. R. On May 4, 2010, at 3:41 PM, mojojones2001 wrote: > Thanks for the answers. Has anyone used the cheap ebay units? I then tried http://www.inkjetcarts.us/ and found them to be very good. No problems at all.

Has anyone used the ink that inkjetcarts sells? They say it's from www.image-specialists.com. I'm interested in replacement inks for Epson K3. I've tried the MIS ink set (along with Paul Roark's recommendation for replacing the yellow with MIS-EZW Carbon). I really wanted it to work, but I couldn't get good results (in ABW at least -- I didn't want to use QTR). The inks had a strong color cast and also produced a gloss differential that was much worse than the OEM inks. Also, btw, the MIS carts didn't fit my R2400; the ones they made for the 2200 fit nicely, but the R2400 ones weren't quite the right shape and they were damaging the printer. Daniel, I have read some place that the MIS ink is also from Image Specialists. I have used the inkjetcarts.us inks, but not the full range of K4 inks. I use OEM PK and IS Blue inks along with MK, LK, LLK, LC, LM and GLOP. I can tell you this - the Lk and LLK of IS inks are defintely warm/brown compared to OEM (warm/green(ish). I like that aspect. So with IS inks, ABW will not work as well as OEM. If you want absolute correspondence with OEM, you may want to try ConeColor inks because they explicitely atate color matching with OEM. I would not recommend ConeColor for ABW. While the ConeColor ink is built to 'replicate' OEM, it does not have the same underprint hue and is not exactly a match for neutral prints or ABW driver. Because the ABW driver is closed you can't neutralize it and it will fail under CC ink (or CC ink will fail under it). QTR is the other option when using CC ink. I do not know how IS ink fairs under ABW but if the K channels are very different, probably worse that CC ink. I doubt there is any replacement inkset that has equally good colors and grays that match the OEM grays. > I've tried the MIS ink set (along with Paul Roark's > recommendation for replacing the yellow with MIS-EZW Carbon). I think the Y=Carbon was a good way to get the excess color out of ABW prints. The MIS carbon cart was (is?) MIS C86 EZ-warm midtone -- the yellow MIS EZ C86 cart would plug straight into the 2400 Y position without even changing the chip. When I tested this approach several years ago, the MIS cart and chip worked well in the 2400 I had. I have not tested any 2400 carts from MIS is a long time. Note that I am a fan of MIS carbon, not its colors. I use MIS color pigments for non-critical work, but they are not as lightfast as the OEM colors, and they will probably require new profiles. What they are is inexpensive, which works for me in daily, non-critical printing. For my personal B&W fine art, I switched to OEM color several years ago and now to 100% carbon more than a year ago. The simple Y=MIS Carbon -- see http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/2400.pdf -- did not require the use of MIS color. I recommended and still recommend MIS carbon, which has performed very well in my fade tests and has a warmer tone than the OEM K3 carbon, which is also too green to be used by itself for B&W. (It could be a blend of carbon + cyan.) If the MIS inks are bought in bulk, I'd recommend the K4 MK (Eboni) PK, LK, and LLK. See http://www.inksupply.com/arcink_k4.cfm For the Y=carbon K3 approach, use MIS EZ-Warm midtone (they are all the same). See http://www.inksupply.com/utez.cfm I think the Y=Carbon approach is still a very viable K3 B&W approach that allows one to use the ABW mode in the Epson driver. Of course, with carbon used where the ABW driver "thinks" yellow is, the ABW controls will be shifted cooler. Paul www.PaulRoark.com

Thanks All, I guess I'll go with one of the full price options, even though my impetus is always to go cheap. ;-) Thanks again, J. --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "mojojones2001" <mojojones@...> wrote:

This is a sound approach. Now if OEM LK and LLK were not so low in the Lab "a" value, I would not consider using any 3rd party inks. The IS LK and LLK (presumably MIS also) is a gorgeous warm tone inkset. --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "pr_roark" <roark.paul@...> wrote: > > SNIP> If the MIS inks are bought in bulk, I'd recommend the K4 MK (Eboni) PK, LK, and LLK. Anyone tried the inkjetcarts for wide format? They "look" the same as the ones Cone & MIS are offering now. I've got to surmise that they are sourcing them from the same manufacturer in China! --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "hp9180profile" <owens@...> wrote:

I have used them in the past for a 4000 and now 4800. No problems. Shilesh --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "mojojones2001" <mojojones@...> wrote:
