Digital BW, The Print

The power supply in my Epson 1400 recently went dead. Since it was out of  
warranty, I decided to buy a new one. I'm now ready to set up the new init  
with the EB6 inkset I had in the earlier printer.
 
Is there any way to get the old MIS refillable cartridges out of the old  
printer or do I have to buy a new set from MIS? Because the thing won't power 
 up, I cannot get the cartridge carriage to move into position so I  can 
open the lid and remove the old cartridges. Anybody know if there is a  way to 
do this manually, since I no longer have the ability to turn  the printer 
on?
