Answer on archiving to DVD . . .

2006-03-17 by wwodets

Thanks for the responses on this question.

I have only spent a few days converting CDs to DVDs, so aging of the
DVDs was not the issue. I have used the Sonic and Nero Burn softwares
and am using a Phillips (IDE?) DVD recorder. I never use labels or
marking pens on the discs. The problem now seems tracable to the discs
I was using, the Delkin "Efilm Archival Gold" DVDs sold by Light
Impressions. These have produced about a 75% data corruption (and,
unfortunately only record at 4X speed). Tests with some Sony DVDs,
recording at 16X have produced no errors. So, I guess it's only my
silver anniversary. I'd stay far away from the Delkin discs.

Thanks,
Walt
