That sounds like a fairly typical experience for trying to use color pigments to generate B&W prints. I'd guess most of us tried to do so at some point and gave up. That's a major reason why the dedicated B&W inksets exist. More specifically, the major issue is whether the image is composed mostly of neutral (warm, actually) carbon or not. The 2400 with the carbon based LK and LLK inks can also make good B&W images. For top quality B&W, most recommend printing with an inkset that uses predominantly carbon to make neutral images.
