You may wish to consider the Epson 2200. It is very widely supported, does a great job on B&W, has lots of inksets to choose from, takes 13 inch wide sheet or roll stock, and can be used with various RIPs (IJC/OPM, QTR, ImagePrint, etc) or with Quad inksets and Photoshop curves. Not exactly lightning fast however.
