My 1270 is alive again

2004-12-18 by Michael Hung

After giving up on it with its microbanding problem and ordered the
C86 CIS.. (and waiting for it to clear customs..). My customer is
pushing hard to have the b/w job done, and I was reading today on how
to install that C86 CIS system, I found a page in MIS telling you how
to fix those strange banding problems:

Remove the MIS stuff and put OEM epson carts in or NEW
UNUSED-aftermarket dye carts.

After a clean nozzle check, run 4-6 purge pages and make sure it's
clean without banding, etc. (And you can really tell the banding changes).

Put the MIS carts back in.

After another clean nozzle check, run another 4-6 purge pages.

And now my 1270's back alive! No more microbanding at all for this
entire print job. (4 8x10s + 1 damaged test 8x10 using QTR). I am sure
the problem may come back but at least there's a way to fix it.

I have no idea why this works.. may be due to the way the ink pass
thru the head and nozzles. And chemical in the Epson carts desolve
some solid deposits that disrupts the flow of ink?

Now.. what to do when my new C86 CIS comes in.. I guess I will have 2
b/w printers.. may be I will make the C86 print glossy b/w, or
semi-retire the 1270 except for large prints.
