Hi Peter, don't give up yet. The printer is OK. This seems to be very important: What could cause too much ink to sit on the base of the print head? If you run too many cleaning cycles in succession, an awful lot of ink is held in the sponge. It will run down into a special large sponge inside the printer eventually, but initially, the ink could be carried back onto the head. The general recommendation is never to run more than two or three cleaning cycles at any one time. Ink sitting on the head risks it drying there, or in really bad cases being thrown off onto the paper, the rollers, or the pizza wheels as the head moves across the page and stops quickly." If this is done accidentally leave the printer for 24 hours so that the air can dissipate naturally." Courtesy of http://www.lyson.com/ (Surprise: this really happens!) I've tried the Windex tricks via both the printhead's resting pad and flushing through the head with a syringe. I ran a color cartridge through the printer, printing both color, B&W with color ink, and black only. That worked OK with the usual cast and metamerism problems when using color ink for B&W. I bought MIS cleaning fluid, soaked the pad, let it sit overnight. Didn't help. I put in MIS cleaning cartridges, printed several purge patterns, left it sitting turned off for a day. Repeated the next day. Put fresh MIS Ultratone and Eboni carts back in. Got a few beautiful prints. Two days later, I have clogs again. In several of the color positions. Most of these clogs seem to move around from nozzle check to nozzle check, but the "yellow" position clog that started this whole saga is still there, as always. I'm about ready to give up on this printer. It seems to do OK with Epson color inks, although a couple of the yellow nozzles never show up in the nozzle checks. With the MIS VM and Ultratone inks, clogs keep happenning. When it works, the results are exquisite. But I have wasted countless weekends and several cartridges of expensive ink, to no avail. My next question is this: Is it worth it to get the 1280 fixed, or should I just cut my losses and get another printer? If the latter, I'm open to advice on which printer to get. I want to be able to do good, smooth, consistent B&W printing. I don't want to spend all my time screwing around with clogs. I love the results I get from UT inks, but it's starting to seem like it's not worth all the trouble.
