Can I borrow your glasses? On my gradients (4x6" @ 300dpi) I could see no
difference without applying pretty strong tonal moves.

That's an excellent point, which I hadn't considered. Interestingly though I
just did a gradient and converted to AdobeRGB with and without dither, then
applied a separation curve (selected somewhat arbitrarily, but trying to
pick one that is middle of the road: Roark's 1160 NC curve) and I could see
no difference. But I ain't got your eyes.

Likewise. Just because a topic interests me (and I seem to enjoy the
minutia) enough to make some tests and share the results doesn't mean I'm
attached to any particular outcome. I'd much rather be wrong and learn
something than be right and learn nothing. I'm really glad you raised the
issue, I learned from it.
