Martin, One other point to bear in mind is that the Registry entries may determine which profile is being used. You can delete or change the actual profile in the color folder, but unless these are unregistered or the new one registered, you may not be getting the effects you want! In XP (and probably 2000) the relevant entries seem to be under Hkey_local_machine/software/microsoft/windowsNT/Current version/ICM. A search for ICM in the 98 Registry will show their location.
